A combined 76 years of teaching and coaching experience, and interaction with thousands of students have spurred two Success Foundation donors to create an endowment that will benefit District 6 Students. The Delia and John W. Haefeli Opportunity Fund has been established and will be held at the Weld Community Foundation. The fund will benefit The Success Foundation, allowing the organization to provide resources to close equity gaps among District 6 students. “We saw students who came to school hungry, without housing, abused, lacking appropriate clothing, unable to pay fees to participate, and more concerned with poverty than being focused on school,” the Haefelis said. “We know that by assisting students in need, their opportunities to succeed improve. We are fortunate to be able to help.”
The Success Foundation board of Directors voted to develop an “opportunity fund” at their November, 2019 board meeting. Parameters for the distribution of funds will be established this spring, ensuring existing community efforts are not duplicated. The Success Foundation’s goal is to serve as a hub in providing students with community resource information and funding needs through the Delia and John W. Haefeli Opportunity Fund that are otherwise not being met. Funding will be available to students during the 2020-21 school year.
“We appreciate The Success Foundation as it is a well-founded, goal-oriented group that focuses on the successes of District 6, its students, staff, and programs. It is easy to support a group that is so hard working, passionate, and concerned about District 6 students,” said the Haefelis. “Our hope with this endowment is that our legacy leaves a footprint and inspires others to give.”
Among the community leaders who have inspired the Haefelis to give are John’s parents, Julianne F. and Joseph L. Haefeli, Betty and Bob Tointon, Holly and Scott Ehrlich, the Monfort Family, Donna and Frank Lakin, Florence and Harold Winograd, Helen and Mike Geile, and Reva and Dick Bond. “We have always been impressed by their selfless attitudes and how it was never about them, but how they could assist others,” the Haefelis said. “We hope that someday our choices will help others feel positive about giving.”
Delia and John are amazing supporters of many community organizations, giving their time, talent, and treasure. “We are honored they have chosen to start this endowment on behalf of The Success Foundation and look forward to the impact it will have on our students,” said Julie Hill, Executive Director of The Success Foundation.
The Haefelis have said that teaching in District 6 was the greatest gift they were ever given. Seeing former students and listening to their successes continue to be their greatest joys. “Many students have overcome tremendous challenges and have still succeeded at a high level,” the Haefelis said. The Delia and John W. Haefeli Opportunity Fund will help to alleviate some of the challenges our students face now and for years to come, paving the way to many more successful futures.
