In 2009, Judy Kron and Janet Alcorn approached Felecia about the necessity of an education foundation for our school district. With shrinking tax revenues, budget cuts, fear of losing students to private schools, and parents’ rising expectations of what their children deserve, there was a need for additional support for our schools.
Starting a grassroots organization takes a lot of work, and Felecia was hesitant at first. When she realized that the hard work will have payoff results that will improve our community, and more importantly our students’ quality of education, she decided she was up for the challenge. She was also very excited to be given the opportunity to stay connected to the District 6 Schools since she was no longer teaching. In 2010, The Success Foundation was established with a small, but mighty, volunteer Board of Directors.
Felecia has remained an active member of our board, including residing as our president in 2016. She will end her final term and retire from the board this December. Felecia has been a wonderful support to The Success Foundation and we will deeply miss her. Her advice to new board members is to not only gain a firm grasp on what The Success Foundation does, and how we impact the students, but to also, tell everyone we know about TSF. “Awareness is key, and we are a very young organization. At only 7 years old, there are many people that don’t know about us.”
What is one fact about yourself that most people don’t know?
“I am an open book so there isn’t much people don’t know about me. However, since we are talking about education, I will share hat I started my early years in school in Spain and Italy while my father was in the USAF. When we came back to the US, I was in remedial reading classes and struggled in school until I went to Aims Community College. There, I fell in love with education and I am now a life-long learner and love to read sales and leadership books.”
