Greeley Home-school Family Rides for Success

PC: Dan England, Greeley Tribune

Everett began biking when he was 12 months old. He’s now 6 and can do bike rides of up to 15-20 miles, even if he was pretty gassed after that ride this summer, the longest he’s done. Gassing Everett takes work. He’s on a swim team and plays soccer, too, and loves to ride in his shark helmet. When asked if he’s ever tired, he shakes his head.

Then again, his parents, both 32, are like that as well.

“We can’t sit still,” [his mother] Jannieth said and laughed.

They take family rides to the pool and to church, and Jannieth, who recently got into biking, got a road bike for a Mother’s Day present.

Now they plan to do the inaugural Ride4Success bike tour in Greeley, a ride to benefit the Success Foundation. Jannieth plans to ride the longest, the 50-miler. Mike and Everett, if you can believe it, will just do the family ride, which should be less than five miles, although families can extend that if they wish. They probably will.

Loveland, Fort Collins and Boulder all have longer bike tours, but there hasn’t been one in Greeley in at least 15 years, at least one no one can remember. Bike tours are more casual rides, not races, but they feature long distances that would challenge most riders, such as the ride Jannieth plans to tackle. Jannieth lately has put in 60-90 miles a week, and a 50-mile ride, she said, was a longtime goal. She’s thrilled to see one finally offered in Greeley.
