Success Stories – Fred Tjardes School of Innovation

Members of our staff went to check out the Fred Tjardes School of Innovation last week. The school opened in the Fall of 2017, and has since seen a tremendous amount of success.

When we visited, they were in their “exploratory” loop, where several community members and students from UNC volunteer to teach classes. These volunteers were specialists in a certain area, and were bringing their expertise to the school. Classes included movie making and photography, model railroad building, household instruments, sewing, and more.

Students learning about architecture through Model Train Kits. This class was being taught by a volunteer from the Colorado Model Railroad Museum.

This school is structured very differently for District 6. It’s built off the idea of embracing children’s curiosity, and using it to foster their learning. Students are learning together, and are doing it through unique activities. This school really is a pilot of cutting edge education. It is giving District 6 the opportunity to implement some new methods of learning, and start expanding them to other schools. There are several schools across the country that use this model, and we’re proud to have such an innovative concept right here in District 6.

Students are learning to work together through their Kung Fu classes!

If you want to see what the students at Fred Tjardes are working on, they are having an open house on February 2, 2018 from 5-7p.m. They are located at 717 6th St. Greeley, 80631
