Students construct their robots using a booklet that provides step by step instructions, and then program it to solve tasks. “Students in the Robotics Club focus on beginning with the end in mind because each group needs to understand what they need to complete first before starting their machines”, commented their mentoring teacher, Maggie Werness. “This usually involves students making a plan to have certain students build different parts of their machines. Each student in a group is aware of their own actions and how to self-regulate their time and efforts to create their robots.”
Students were actively engaged and learning while we were observing, and were excited to tell us all about how science and math are represented in the construction and programming of their machines.
