We were honored to observe Mr. Bill Alexander and his 3D Printers at Franklin Middle School today! Mr. Alexander was a recipient of on of our 21st Century Grants. In honor of Halloween, students were working on spooky projects! Students were able to design an object of their choice in a virtual 3D design room on their computer, and then submit it for printing. Most chose pumpkins, or spiders, but there were a couple of scary clowns and scorpions! Students access free online software programs to learn the basics and familiarize themselves with 3D technology. A second program, which they’ll be diving into next month, will allow them to create more detailed objects.
Mr. Alexander is making the 3D printers available to many students before and after school, and encourages their use for other classes. We saw a 3D medieval horseshoe, astrolabe, and chalice that students created for a project they were working on in Social Studies.
What an awesome opportunity for our District 6 Students. Thank you, Mr. Alexander, for inviting us in today!
