We recently visited another 21st Century Grant recipient! Mr. Terry Highfield at McAuliffe S.T.E.M. Academy received funding to purchase LEGO Education WeDO kits. With this grant, students are able to work in small groups to build functional LEGO robots. Using iPads, they are able to choose what they want their robot to look like, and it gives them step-by-step instructions to build it. They are then able to program it to move, and complete tasks.
“Kids who struggle in some content areas really thrive and all students gain confidence when we work with these LEGO® kits. It offers a different opportunity and puts all students on the same playing field. Each student brings different perspectives and ideas that are needed to be successful with these projects.”
Mr. Highfield has been working with LEGO robots at McAuliffe for a few years now. They now have enough kits to host S.T.E.M. days, where entire grade levels are able to rotate through building and programming the robots.
Thank you to Mr. Highfield and McAuliffe S.T.E.M. Academy for allowing us to come observe the awesome things you are doing!
