Success Stories – Salida del Sol

12 students from Salida del Sol Academy had the honor of being selected to play at the Blue Sneaker Ball on January 8th at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The students, grades 5-8, were invited to represent their school, and Little Kids Rock and Take Note, two non-profits dedicated to provide musical instruments, teacher professional development, and to inspire students’ musical talents through the music they know.

The students, directed by Wanda Vasquez-Garcia, played and sang two songs on the ukulele, and were joined by an 8th grade student playing Caj√≥n, a percussion instrument from Peru. They were also joined by the very talented Julia Kirkwood, a song writer from Lesher Middle School in Fort Collins. The students practiced over the winter break to prepare, and played “Best Day of Our Lives” by the American Authors, and accompanied Julie on her original song, “Me and You.” Other performers included Cyndi Lauper and Nathaniel Rateliff!

Garcia said, “Our kids had a great night experiencing this event, and it was a night they will treasure forever.”
