As the need increases for students and teachers to access electronic resources, the inadequacies of the current District 6 technology system had to be addressed. The District received an E-rate grant from the federal government to upgrade the system. The new system will increase capacity to use Internet-based multimedia educational materials and will greatly increase access, reliability and response time.
This graph illustrates the expanded capacity of the new system. The Success Foundation contributed $30,000 to purchase Fiber Optic Transceivers. These devices are the final link between the district’s distributed network and the “rest of the world.” They are specially designed pieces of equipment capable of handling the data volume and speed necessary to support current and anticipated loads on the new network.
